Joanne and Kristen from I Am Someone Australia visited the mothers of our Guardians of Household Health project, leading a menstrual hygiene talk and donating dozens of reusable sanitary pads for women in need.
Last month, Adorn Life Initiative had the honour of hosting two special visitors, Joanne and her friend Kristen from I Am Someone, Australia. The two travelled to meet the remarkable women of our Guardians of Household Health women’s empowerment project, a group of mothers working together to build healthier homes through knowledge, skills, and financial independence.
At the heart of their visit was a menstrual hygiene health talk. Menstrual health remains a subject too often surrounded by silence, yet it touches the dignity, confidence, and well-being of every woman and girl in our community. Joanne and Kristen spoke openly with the mothers, creating a safe space where questions could be asked freely and experiences shared without shame.
The conversation went beyond awareness. Joanne and Kristen introduced the mothers to reusable sanitary pads -a safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable products that many families in our community struggle to afford. They demonstrated how to use and care for the pads, and went a step further by teaching the mothers how to make them locally, using materials within reach. This hands-on training means the knowledge will not leave when the visit ends: it stays in the hands of the mothers, who can make pads for themselves, their daughters, and their neighbours — and even turn the skill into another source of income for their group.
Before departing, Joanne and Kristen generously donated dozens of reusable sanitary pads to Adorn Life Initiative. In the coming weeks, we shall be distributing these pads to women and girls in need across our community, ensuring that no woman has to compromise her health, schooling, or work simply because of her period.
This visit speaks to everything the Guardians of Household Health project stands for: mothers equipped with knowledge and skills, supported to care for the health of their households in sustainable ways.
To Joanne, Kristen, and the entire I Am Someone family in Australia, thank you. Your warmth, openness, and generosity have left a lasting mark on the women of Kasese. You reminded every mother in that room that she is not forgotten. She is someone.
Live Healthy, Live Life Better.
